Love Goes on Forever
What is true love? Is it found in summer flings, lasting relationships, or young puppy love? I believe that I found one of my first examples of true love in the love story of my Grandpa and Grandma. A love story that is marked by time and unconditional love.
My grandpa, John, and my grandma, Ann, have been married 67 years and are both in their early 90's. God crafted their love story at a very early age during the 1940's. My grandma always dates back to when she first met my grandpa. They were both very young at only 23 years old. She tells me that it was love at first sight when she met him in her neighborhood and they have been together ever since. They now have a large family with seven children and many grandchildren. Unfortunately, my grandpa has been handicapped with Dementia for 11 years now. He has almost lost all of his vision and can no longer speak but only a few words. He has to sleep in a medical bed with an oxygen tank right beside him every night. However, my Grandma has been able to stay mobile and keep most of her memory to this day. Although some things are uncertain to her in her old age, one thing always proves certain, the love she shares with her husband.
Their love goes beyond circumstance and dives into unconditional adoration for one another. Even with the tough condition my grandpa faces, my grandma still goes on about how alive he makes her feel when she is with him. She always talks to him with sweet tender words that are marked with the love they have shared over all their seasons together. Not one night will go by where she does not sleep near him in her recliner chair. Their master bed has been vacant for years now, for she refuses to sleep in their room alone but would much rather sleep in the living room right by her husband. She once told me that the only sleep she can get is when she hears the sound of her husband breathing, which soothes her right to sleep. One of the most precious memories I have of my Grandpa and Grandma is when they hold each other’s hands. I often imagine how many memories they made while holding each other’s hands in pure love. Their first date, their wedding day, the birth of their first child, their trials in building a business, their morning coffee together, their first grandchild, their trips to the hospital for my grandpa’s health, their daily prayers together, and so on. Never once have I seen my Grandpa and Grandma without their hands intertwined together. Whether my Grandma is at the kitchen table or out on the porch, she always asks for my Grandpa to be right beside her. I cry sometimes watching the way they are together and how precious their love is. Even though life has seasoned them and time has weathered them, their love is stronger with each passing day. Sometimes I will catch a glance of my grandpa smiling when grandma talks to him or touches his hand. It melts my heart to see life continue for them through their love for one another.
Their beautiful love story reminds me of the verse in 1 Corinthians 13, “If you love someone you will be loyal to them no matter what the cost. You will always believe in them, always expect the best in them, and always stand your ground in defending them…gifts and powers from God will one day come to an end, but love goes on forever.” My Grandpa and Grandma bring this verse to life through their unconditional love for one another. A shining example of what true love is meant to be.
I know that even when this world has come to pass their love will continue forever. I believe that when God has taken them home, I will one day see them both in Heaven walking the Golden Road hand in hand just as they have done for 67 years. I pray that John and Ann Mariotti are an example to us that love is not conditional but self-sacrificial, always putting the other above ourselves. In any circumstance, let love prevail.
"...the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." Galations 5:6
Standing in the Storm
I hope that this blesses your day. I just felt led to share :) Please know that God is always near...even in the storm. <3
Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed.
For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid:
I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand.
Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand. Isaiah 41:10
Life can be complex with the ever-chancing seasons. Sometimes these seasons can bring trials and struggles that will test our character in Christ Jesus. As soon as we begin to be overwhilmed in our schedules, fear of obstacles or anxious in waiting seasons, we begin to limit God. The promises of Christ seem to diminish as the problems of the world begin to weather our hearts. Yet it is in our darkest hour that God's power can shine the brightest. Too many times, I have let my own doubts, insecurities and fears be my constant companion in life. It is all too easy to forget that God never goes anywhere when we feel distant from Him in times of distress. He is constant in His pursuit of us but we are not always constant in our pursuit of Him. This especially proves to be true in the face of trials.
In the past, I have let the obstacles of life limit my faith in Christ. However, the scripture in Isaiah 41:10 shines like a beacon of hope when facing the storms of life. How beautiful to think that we are NEVER ALONE in this complex and unexpected life of ups and downs. Jesus Christ is SOVEREIGN and will always be the strength that we need to carry on through the circumstance. The Word of the Lord says in Provers 10:25, "When the storms of life come the wicked are whirled away but the godly have a lasting foundation." Yes, it is true that this world will shake you, break you, and tear you down but when Christ is our foundation, we are able to STAND on solid ground. His grace is greater than any past. His love is greater than any fleeting desire. His truth is greater than any doubt. His power is greater than any dark hour. "He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along," Psalm 40:2
When the trials of life divert our vision, we should set the Lord before us always as HIS truth restores our sight. Times change, people drift apart, there are trials, there are triumphs and there are ever-changing seasons, but GOD is our CONSTANT Helpmate. "Because You are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me," Psalm 63:7-8. God is eager to rush in like a hurricane to the heart that is broken and the soul that is thirsty. Come close to HIm in every season, for that is where your everlasting hope, peace, and eternal love rest. The circumstances of life swiftly change with the stroke of every hour, but God's love is steadfast in loyalty, forever enduring in power.
"From the ends of the earth I call to You, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I." Psalm 61:2
"God doesn't want us to run away from things. He wants us to go through them." Joyce Meyer
"But I call to God and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning, noon I cry out in distress and He hears my voice." Psalm 55:16-17
"You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:13

I waited patiently on the LORD...
The Word of the Lord says in Psalm 40:1-2, “I waited patiently for the LORD; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, of the mud and the mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” In the seasons of waiting, sometimes the fear, anxiety, hurt, and doubt make us feel like we are drowning in quick sand without any foundation. We are paralyzed with so many unanswered questions, words left unsaid and uncertain circumstances. If we continue to fight in our own strength, we are left frustrated and weak from sinking in our own flood of problems. It is not until we can surrender our control and doubts unto the Lord that He can set us on solid ground and orchestrates our struggles into a greater story. However, all too many times, we begin to question God’s ways saying to ourselves, “Why is God withholding this from me? Why am I not getting a clear answer?” However, those same questions we must ask ourselves, “What are we withholding from God? Are we truly waiting on the Lord or leaning on our own understanding?” There is no instance in which we deserve to know all of God’s plans for our life, because if we knew everything then what would there be left to hope for? Hope comes through faith and true faith comes through Jesus Christ. That is why we put our hope in Him, knowing that in due time He will come through and show us the right way.
Sometimes we want to move, but God wants us to stand still in trusting HIM.
I waited patiently for the LORD; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, of the mud and the mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our GOD. Many will see, fear, and put their trust in the LORD. Psalm 40:1-3.
“Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in GOD, for I will yet praise HIM. My Savior and my God… By day the Lord directs His love, at night His song is with me-a prayer to the GOD of my life.” Psalm 42:5, 8
Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear for I AM with you; do not be dismayed, for I AM your GOD. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your GOD will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
‘I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him."’ Lamentations 3:24
Be Blessed in knowing that time is a blessing, not a curse. :)
